Michelle Monaghan AND Vera Farmiga with Jake for Source Code?

One of the most disappointing trends I've noticed thus far during the ongoing awards season is the repeated snubbing of Duncan Jones' excellent unconventional sci-fi character study, "Moon." If you haven't seen it, correct that quickly.

Snubbed or not, at least Jones is getting more work. He will next direct "Source Code," a sci-fi thriller about a soldier whose orders to investigate a terrorist bombing require him to inhabit the body of a commuter killed in the attack, reliving those events over and over in his search for answers. Jake Gyllenhaal has already been cast as the solder; this morning's news brings word of two more joining the cast: Vera Farmiga and Michelle Monaghan.

Farmiga, who is on everybody's mind right now for her performance in Jason Reitman's Oscar-baiting "Up in the Air," will guide Gyllenhaal's soldier from a control room as a communications officer. Monaghan will play another unfortunate victim of the train bombing, the love interest of the man who's body Gyllenhaal's soldier inhabits.

This is some good casting. The unique story in "Moon" limited the cast to one human actor -- an amazing performance from Sam Rockwell -- and one voice actor, Kevin Spacey. "Source Code" sounds like a much larger story than "Moon," but still scaled for a small-ish cast and a highly personal story. And considering the care that went into crafting his debut feature, I can't wait to see what Jones does next.

Did you see "Moon"? Did you like it? What do you think of the "Source Code" idea? The casting?
